Connecting your Stripe account
Connect your own Stripe account so sales settle directly to you, and understand why a connected account is not always ready to charge yet.
EmbPay does not hold your money. Every sale is a charge on your own Stripe account, so connecting that account is what turns your products into something a buyer can actually pay for.
Connect your account
- 1Verify your email address if you have not already. Connecting Stripe is one of the actions that requires a proven address, and without it you are sent back to the dashboard with a prompt to verify.
- 2Open your dashboard, go to Settings, then the Payments tab.
- 3In the Stripe Connection card, click “Connect with Stripe”.
- 4Complete Stripe's onboarding. You are on Stripe's own site here — EmbPay never sees the details you enter.
- 5Stripe returns you to EmbPay and the connection is recorded against your account.
Connected is not the same as ready to charge
Stripe marks a new account as able to accept charges only once it has enough information about you. That check is Stripe's, it can take a little while, and it can come back asking for more. Until Stripe says the account can take charges, EmbPay treats your products as not yet on sale.
That state is deliberate and visible rather than silent. A buyer landing on one of your pages sees a clear message instead of a checkout that fails at the last step:
| Where | What the buyer sees |
|---|---|
| Your product page | “This product isn't on sale yet” |
| The hosted checkout | “Checkout Not Available — this seller isn't able to accept payments yet” |
| An embedded checkout | The same not-able-to-accept-payments message |
While in that state, those pages are also kept out of search results and out of the sitemap, so a page that cannot sell anything does not collect search traffic.
You can build everything first
Nothing stops you creating products, designing your checkout and setting up bumps and upsells before Stripe is connected. Your products list flags anything that cannot take payments yet, and you can rehearse a complete purchase using test mode without connecting anything at all.
If something goes wrong
- You are asked to verify your email — check your inbox for the verification link, then start the connection again.
- You are returned with an account mismatch error — this happens when the Stripe account that finished onboarding is not the one that started it. Begin again from the Payments tab in a single browser session.
- Onboarding is incomplete — Stripe still wants more information. Reopen the connection from the Payments tab and Stripe will resume where it stopped.
