Subscriptions, split-pay and pay-what-you-want

Offer up to six ways to pay for one product: one-time, subscription, a fixed number of renewals, split-pay instalments or a buyer-chosen price.

A single product can carry up to six pricing options, and the buyer picks one under a “Choose how to pay” heading at checkout. If there is only one option and it is not pay-what-you-want, the selector is hidden entirely.

The five kinds

OptionWhat the buyer seesHow it ends
One-timeA single pricePaid once
SubscriptionA price per month or per yearRuns until cancelled
Limited subscription“$99.00 per month for 3 payments”Stops after the number of cycles you set
Split-pay“3 payments of $99.00”Stops after the number of instalments you set
Pay-what-you-wantA price they choose, at or above your minimumPaid once

Intervals are monthly or yearly, repeated between one and twelve times, and a limited or split-pay plan runs between two and sixty cycles. The first charge happens immediately, so a three-cycle plan means exactly three charges.

Trials

A trial is set on the product rather than on a pricing option: switch it on, choose the number of days, and optionally charge a fee for the trial itself. A card is always collected up front, even when the trial costs nothing, so the subscription can begin without asking the buyer to come back.

What buyers can do afterwards

Buyers manage their own subscriptions without an account or a password — see what buyers can do for themselves.
